One of the common questions we get asked by our new clients is what they should bring with them. Packing for a sailing trip is not hard, nor it requires any special equipment, but there are some important things to have in mind. This is why we decided to create an ultimate packing guide for you. We asked our team members from skippers, hostesses, and even our CEO so that you don’t forget anything important!
What To Pack On A Sailing Trip
One basic thing you need to remember is to pack light. The storage spaces are limited in most of the yachts, so you don’t want your stuff to clutter up your cabin. And even when you board on luxurious yachts like our Lagoon 52, there is no need to bring a lot of things with you. They will just fill in unnecessary space you could instead enjoy.
We recommend you avoid bringing a structured suitcase with you, but instead, opt for a duffel bag that can be folded and molded to fit any space when you empty it. However, if you don’t own any, we have a little storage space in tour offices for you to leave your empty suitcase.
Keep in mind that, most of the time, you will be living in your swimsuit, so remember to pack at least one or two with you. What you don’t need is to pack a lot of clothes. Just opt for the basics. And remember this is a chilled and adventurous type of holiday, so formalwear is completely unnecessary. Bring clothes that are lightweight, protect you from the sun and you feel comfortable in. Tees, shorts, and long sleeve tops are a must. Don’t forget your Pj’s and underwear, as well as flip flops, hats, and sunglasses. We also recommend bringing a lightweight jacket, because even though this is a summer holiday it can sometimes get chilly in the evenings.
Personal Hygiene Products
You will be exposed to the summer sun for many hours throughout the day so sunscreen is not an optional item, but a must. The same goes for an after-sun lotion or any other skincare product. Other than these, you need to bring some hygiene products like soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrush, and toothpaste, etc. You can also take with you some extra things you might need like a hairdryer, contact solution, brush, and makeup to name a few.
Some extra items we recommend having with you because you might find them useful, are clothespins, garbage bags, wipes, sailing gloves, clothes detergent, and tweezers.
Having fun is the main goal of your trip, however, you must not neglect your safety and health. There are some health care items you need to bring with you, just in case they are needed. We will offer you a first aid kit containing the basic items, however, we suggest you bring with you some extra ibuprofen, Dramamine, allergy medicine, mosquito repellant, anti-itch spray, and an eye flush solution. Don’t hesitate to ask us, if you are missing any of these.
You need to take food with you on board, even if you are planning to eat on tavernas and restaurants throughout your whole trip. There is a supermarket close to both of our marinas, where you can shop for provisions, otherwise, you can fill in a list with what you’ll need and have the food delivered to your yacht upon embarkation. And don’t forget to take a lot of water with you! The hot summer months, hydration is very important. Of course, if you are hiring a crew, they will take care of the provisions for you.
Some optional things we suggest having with you are some board games for fun, nylon wallet to protect your money and credit cards, some books and magazines, and snorkeling equipment for all the members in case you want to discover the bottom of the sea together. Floaties would also be a fun option as well!
We suggest you make a list of all the things you need prior to your trip so that you will not forget anything important! Don’t hesitate to contact us at email@example.com if you need more information or you have any extra questions!
